Camp Safety & Concerns:
Dear Participants,
The following Safety issues and concerns have been drafted so
that everyone knows and is aware of "special considerations" that we
all need to abide by for the welfare of all when attending
the 2010-MW Rendezvous. Please read and discuss these issues with
all the members of your camp. The "Dog Soldiers" have been
instructed to pay special attentions to these issues and will
enforce compliance.
Fire Concerns:
The area we are encamped on historically was known as "Beaver
Flats" and was used as a rendezvous area from the earliest Fur Trade
era. UNFORTTUNATELY, deep underground there is a considerable amount
of Peat-moss and if that were to catch fire it would burn for
months, Therefore be very careful with all camp fires and please
have close at hand a 5 gallon quantify of water that could be used
to extinguish fires that get out of hand. Excessively large Camp
fires will not be allowed and fires unattended will be
extinguished by our Dog Soldiers.
Please lets all be very careful with our camp fires!
Open Food and Garbage:
This area of the U.P. is known to have Bears which
roam freely, so please be careful about leaving food left open and
allowing Garbage to accumulate around your camp. Generally, Bears are
more afraid of us the we are of them but once a Bear becomes use to
eating human food and/or Garbage they can become very persistent and
obstinate about giving up such free meals.
Never allow yourself to get between a mother Bear and her youth - if
you do you could suffer greatly for doing so! Remember the Bears
are full-time hunters and we are only visitors to their realm - if
you try to argue with them you are most likely to loose!
Note: Garbage will be collected each day (@7:00PM) and will
be taken from camp - please do not allow an excessive quantity of
garbage to
accumulate in your camp.
Fire Arms in Camp:
There will be undoubtedly many "shooting-guns" in camp, and
our carrying of them to the shooting range is the likely time when
unsafe behaviors will most likely occur. Please be extra careful
when you carry any fire-arm to the range - remember you are setting
an example for others (usually our youth) and we want them to learn
the right way and develop positive attitudes and habits about safe
fire-arm usage! NO fire-arm will be discharged expect in an
appropriately designate area.
Sharp Edged Weapons and Tools:
All Hawks and Knifes when being carried through camp must
have a leather cover on them.
Axes and other Sharp edged tools should be put away when not in use
and never left out in the open where untrained youth may miss-handle
them. Lets all try to set a good example for our youth that such
items are tools and need to be utilized with respect and in a
responsible manner.
