Temporary food establishment license required for festivals and fundraisers.

Michigan’s Food Law, P.A. 92 of 2000, governs all food establishments licensing in Michigan. Temporary food establishment licenses are required in almost all instances where food or drink is served to the general public including festivals, community picnics, and religious, charitable, or fraternal organizations preparing food as part of a benefit or fundraiser.

Applications and information packets regarding temporary food establishment licensing are available at the Health Department offices in Bessemer, Hancock, Baraga, and Ontonagon.  An application for a license needs to be made at least five day’s prior to the planned event.  For more information, contact the Environmental Health Division of the Western U.P. District Health Department in Hancock.  Contact Lynne Tarbutton at 906-482-7382 for permits.
